For nearly two decades, the Edge Foundation has advocated for a truly broad and balanced education for all young people – one that is academically rigorous and equips them with the skills for life and the rapidly-changing world of work.
Our policy work predominantly covers the 14-19 education system across the UK, examining:
- The curriculum
- Apprenticeships
- Further and Higher Education
This is an exciting time in education and skills policy, with training the current and future workforce a key priority for both main parties.
Our latest policy report, Flex Without Compromise, explores how the Government’s proposed Growth and Skills Levy could be designed without compromising apprenticeship opportunities for young people. Released today.
At the local, regional and national level, it is essential that education policy makes it as easy as possible for schools, colleges and universities to deliver the broad, relevant education that we advocate. Our policy positions are developed from the ground up, so we use our strong research base and the evidence we collect from our delivery work to develop clear policy proposals for the future.
This section brings together our policy reports, evidenced policy recommendations and information about our policy networks. We know that policymakers and partners are busy, so our policy positions set out our recommendations by theme and allows you to explore more about our proposals and the evidence behind them. We regularly respond to policy moments such as upcoming fiscal events and announcements from government and you can see our responses here.
We are also interested in better policy making. Our ‘Learning from the Past’ and ‘Good Policy Making’ series allow us to broaden our understanding of what good policy looks like and how to implement it effectively. We also work closely with colleagues in devolved administrations to learn from best practice and foster better collaboration across the four nations.
Feel free to use, share and build on the information here, citing The Edge Foundation so that we can continue to support the important debate in these areas. We are keen to work with others to build our policy recommendations, so get in touch if you are interested in working together or want to join one of our policy networks.
