Aboyne Academy is a 6-year comprehensive secondary school which caters for 668 pupils from the Upper Deeside area in North-East Scotland. The school has the largest geographical catchment area of all the schools in Aberdeenshire and has 10 associated primary schools. The school has Enhanced Provision facilities to support pupils with additional support needs and the complex needs provision for Deeside.

The purpose of this toolkit is to provide a practical guide and resources for schools and colleges to develop their own Teacher Externship programme within their context and setting. Included are valuable guides for when you are working with employers to ensure you develop strong partnerships and a practical workbook for teachers for when they visit an employer.

This practice toolkit gives an introduction to learner profiles which aim to broaden what counts as learning and achievement, and enable students of all ages to demonstrate the full breadth of their strengths.

The toolkit is designed to help inform teachers and lecturers about some of the different pedagogies available to be used in their teaching, whilst being mindful of what they wish students to learn, know and do and the learning outcomes which are desired. Each page gives an overview of some of the key pointers and resources to explore each pedagogy further.

This toolkit showcases ten protocols from XP School in Doncaster. These protocols can be used by teachers to help them develop techniques to support students learning and independence when undertaking the project or expedition.
