The project kicks off with two sessions: Project Launch and Interests, Values and Team Building. You may download facilitation guides for these sessions at the bottom of this page.
Project Launch (45 minutes)
- Provide all students with the same start and equal access to the project
- Students understand that they will be making a real-life impact on their community
- Students are aware of the aims of the project, the timeline, their role and what they’re being asked to do
- Builds excitement and curiosity for students, encouraging their engagement in the project
- Students feel empowered to make a difference in their local communities
Interests, Values and Team Building (50 minutes)
- Students reflect on their interests and values
- Students develop an understanding of the strengths and skills they can all bring to the project
- The group collaboratively develop a charter to guide how they’ll work across the project
Additional activities you may want to consider:
- A guest speaker from a local organisation or charity
- Examples of articles or statistics on issues in the local area
- A problem-solving challenge or discussion
- Songs, stories, poems, or art connecting to the local community
- Local changemaker stories
