Practice Description
The College offers a a ‘conversion’ step to go from MBO (secondary vocational route) to HBO (University of Applied Sciences). This was a difficult task for the college as it is rarely offered in the Netherlands. The school researched what the main skills were that students require for HBO and what HBOs reported were lacking from their students. These included working in a team and project working.
They piloted this conversion step in a generic subject course: Human Technology. designed to prepare students with the skills needed. Projects run throughout 2 years, mapped to particular skills that need to be met. There are placements in both years that include working on a project for a company. The course leaders developed a Skills Compass tool to help map out and assess the skills needed across the 2 years with lots of peer and teacher feedback throughout.
